Annotation. A meteorological phenomenon that consists of abnormally hot weather conditions, lasting several days or longer and that belongs to the atmosphere’s synoptic-scale circulation is termed a Heat Wave. Heat waves cause heat stress and have significant impacts on the wellbeing, efficiency and health of humans, and can lead to marked short-term increases in morbidity and mortality. The aim of this work is an assessment of the thermal comfort conditions in Lviv during summer heat wave events for the period 1961–2015. The assessment is based on the thermal index Physiologically Equivalent Temperature (PET). The calculation of PET is performed utilizing the RayMan model. As shown in the study, during the period of 1961–2015, 23 heat wave events were found in Lviv. Those HWs were characterized by different duration (from 6 to 14 days) and intensity (with the maximum value of cumulative Ta,MAX – 48.8°C). The obtained results suggest that the HW event of 2015 was the longest and the most strenuous HW in human-biometeorological terms in Lviv since 1961. Strong and extreme heat stress also prevailed in Lviv at 15.00 EEST during this HW event. The diurnal variation of PET values during the HW was similar to that of the air temperature with minimum values in the early morning and maximum in the afternoon (15.00 EEST). Mainly, throughout the period, days occurred on which heat stress occurred for 9 hours (9.00–18.00 EEST). The findings obtained in this study can be used in public health protection, regional and urban planning, various aspects of tourism and recreation areas, and research in climate change.

This fact determines the relevance of research, because the forecast of future climate variability and risk evaluation are possible only under conditions of detailed analysis of major meteorological indicators done for a long period of time. The publications deals with the characteristics of the features of temperature regime of Poltava region in the modern climatic period (1991 - 2019) and its features relevant to the normalized climatic period (1961 - 1990) based on the analysis of air temperature of meteorological stations in Gadiach, Lubny, Poltava, Veseliy Podil, Kobeliaky. The tendencies of changes in thermal regime of the territory of Poltava region in the conditions of global warming are described. It is shown that there is a significant increase in average, maximum and minimum temperatures in the region during the modern climatic period compared to the climatic norm. The year-on-year distribution of anomalies of average, maximum and minimum temperatures during the year was analyzed, as well as temperatures in January and in July for the period from 1961 to 2019 in relation to the climatic norm, including the method of sliding averaging with a step of five years.
