Education as a Social Institution in the System of Regional Development

Annotation.The article examines the role of education as a key social institution within the system of regional development. It substantiates the assumption that education is a decisive factor in shaping human capital, social cohesion, and economic growth. Based on the analysis of concepts of educational landscapes and the geography of education, their influence on the spatial organization of society and regional differences in access to quality education has been identified. Particular attention is paid to the challenges of decentralization and the transformation of the educational landscape as a result of military events on the territory of Ukraine, which intensify spatial educational inequality. The conclusion emphasizes the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach that involves considering the regional development system through the theory of “educational spaces” and applying geographical methods to identify educational deserts and develop equalizing policies.
